Capen Farmhouse Guest Cottage is a one-room romantic rustic cottage on a pristine trout stream built by an artist in l900. It has old fashioned furnishings, a full bath, a kitchenette with min-refrigerator, and sits in an old orchard on a l00 acre historic property. The amenities include a 20 X 40 heated swimming pool, our own hiking trails, badminton, antique croquette, privacy, old fashioned furnishings, fishing, wildlife viewing, beaver ponds, and 30-60 minutes to all of the hilltown attractions listed below.
The rate is $95 per night with a 2 night minimum on week-ends and holidays and include a self-serve breakfast of cereal, milk, fruit, gourmet muffins, juice, coffee and tea. No smoking, no pets, but baby furniture is available. Cash, traveler's checks, or personal checks are acceptable. To secure the cottage, a 50% check deposit is required, and a cancellation refund is possible with 2 weeks notice. Check-in time is 2:00 PM or after, and check-out time is 11:00 AM or before.
Area attraction brochures and restaurant menus are available. Cook a romantic supper and dine in seclusion on antique rustic furnishings, or picnic in the adjacent gazebo, or enjoy the fare at nearby colonial inns. Other local attractions include the Worthington Golf Course, Chesterfield Gorge, Glendale Falls, Chesterfield miniature theatre, Old Deerfield Village, Mt. Sugarloaf State Reservation, Shaker Village, Norman Rockwell Museum, Jacob's Pillow (for ballet), Tangelwood (for concerts), Hadley Farm Museum, Arrowwood (Herman Melville's home), poet William Cullen Bryant's family farm, Chesterwood (the estate of sculptor Daniel Chester French of Lincoln memorial fame), the Red Bucket Maple Sugar shack, the Old Creamery Country Store, Ireland Street Orchards and Antiques, the Windsor Jambs State Park, Notchview Reservation, small town country fairs nearly every weekend, the Mount (historic home of Edith Wharton), the Worthington Corners General Store, and many many other attractions. Our country roads, many of dirt, wander through a lovely charming landscape, free of traffic and stress. Come and relax with us.
The Cottage is the summer guest quarters of the 1854 Capen Farmhouse and is located in Worthington, home of the Sevenares Music Festival, and is available from 1 June through 31 October. Directions: Mass. Turnpike West Springfield Exit, 91 North to Northhampton, 9 West to Williamsburg, 143 West to Worthington, take right on Rt. 112, at bottom of hill before bridge, take right onto dirt road, we are on your immediate left.
Owners are Bob and Mary Randall. Bob is a retired high school history department chair and Mary is an artist.
